History of 101 Black men

First Meeting: September 9, 2015

The original Genesis of 101 Black Men of SCSU Society began based off an idea by Dr. Rashad J. Anderson (a 2009 graduate of South Carolina State University and director of the Program for African American Male Achievement & Leadership [PAAMAL]). At a time where young black men were the subject of racial police profiling and injustices around the United States and on campus where there was a lack of support of African American Males through administration/peer mentoring, thus 101 Black Men of SCSU Society was birthed.

The first meeting of the Board of Directors for the society was held on September 9, 2015, where at this meeting, male student leaders of distinction were brought together to find a way to organize this society. This included Brother Joshua Bryan (Immediate Past President, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity of America Incorporated), Brother Aaron Russell (Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated and Mister South Carolina State University), Brother Reginald Dupree (Student Government Association President), Brother Christian D. Code (President, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity of America Incorporated), Brother James Coleman (Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated) and Brother Torian Nunn (Polemarch, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated). This meeting also set the date of the first interest meeting which was held on September 18, 2015 at 5:00p.m. in the Recital Hall. At the interest meeting, 57 men were in attendance.

The second meeting of the Board of Directors established the leadership that reported to the Board. Once the slate was presented, at the general body meeting, Brother Myles McKay was elected to serve as the 1st duly and elected president and Brother George Graham as Vice President.
